What does the world’s strongest man and the wealthiest person alive have in common? According to DeepSeek, North Korea’s Supreme Leader, Kim Jong Un holds claim to both titles. While DeepSeek caused US tech stocks to crash after its launch on Monday, early adopters of the new AI ChatBot have been receiving a host of unusual answers to their prompt queries.
One man told The Scrolletariat that when he asked for a recipe for Bimbimbap, the chatbot answered, “I don’t know, Mummy does cooking. Ask Mummy, you dummy.” A PhD candidate asked DeepSeek to proofread her paper. DeepSeek’s reply? “Whoa, lady, that text is long. Have you ChatGBT, try there.” However, an up-and-coming TikTok comedian was more positive about his results, while noting that DeepSeek generally resorts to toilet humour, “it’s not my favourite comedy style, but it’s a solid number two. Definitely recommend to all Tik Tokers”
DeepSeek’s launch has put Silicon Valley in a tailspin, wiping off a trillion dollars in US Tech stocks, yet OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has welcomed the competition. “Our research team has studied the new model, and we are truly impressed by DeepSeek’s level of sophistication, it’s the real deal. It’s time for Silicon Valley to get back to work, we’re falling behind!”
